The Beast inside you

ThumbnailSay Good Bye, beast!

Q:Hello Valentine. Please introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about the current project Vivisector: Beast Within which is in developement at Action Forms. Of course we know a lot about it but maybe some of the readers don`t.
A:My name is Valentine Yeltyshev, I'm an Action Forms PR manager. We are currently working on Vivisector: Beast Within game. Its a FPS game that tells a story about an evil genius doctor, that worked on modifying animals, improving their physical strength, intellect, combat skills. But once everything went wrong. The Lion - best doctor's creation excited a rebellion. Beasts versus people. You will play as a member of Marine squad, that was sent to Soreo island to save the previous group. This is the beginning of the story.

Q:What makes Vivisector: Beast Within different from games like Painkiller, Serious Sam, Will Rock and Far Cry? The Gameplay seems to become like the first three of these and while looking at the screenshots most people may remember in Far Cry.
A: Vivisecotr: Beast Within gameplay is partially like Painkiller and Serious Sam[/b ones. During the first levels the player will take part in heavy action, but moving along the island the gameplay will vary making the game unpredictable and preventing it from being boring. The main difference from such games like Serious Sam is storyline's earnestness. We've introduced interesting and at the same time philosophic idea that could be perceived playing the game.

Q: Do you remember in Dr. Moreau? We guess you do, because the Story sounds like everyone in the Team has read the book. Does this mean if I have read the book I can`t expect too much differences between book and game? What`s so new about it?
A: You are right. We’ve read this book, we really did. Our story is only similar to Dr. Moreau. From the very beginning of the development we were making our own game with our own story, but we were so inspired and impressed by Walles’ book, so it was completely impossible to avoid some kind of similarity. Don't worry the storyline is completely different.

Q: In some articles it was readable that the player will be able to join different groups (or fight them) which live and fight on the island. Can you tell us a few „new“ things about this feature?
A:While developing the game some of its aspects were changed. The player will have some allies but he can't join any groups. He will only be able to watch the battles between different hostile groups (for example beasts and human guards) and even help one of them, but anyway at the end he will be attacked.

Q: How many enemies are possible at once with your Engine? How many can be shown on the monitors at one time?
A: Our engine is quite powerful to display huge levels, large quantities of different objects, enemies and graphics effects, so you will be able to see dozens of enemies attacking you at the same time.

Q: What about the AI? Will the enemies just run into the bullets fired by the player? Will they have special behaviours? Will they be really intelligent or just utterly stupid? Can people find them fighting the creatures or each other?
A: All creatures can be divided into three large groups: ModBeasts, HumAnimals and OverBrutes. The beats from first group are quadrupeds with modified skeleton, that also have some additional abilities.
These creatures are quite stupid. They are aggressive and strait forwarded, so it is not too complicated to fight with them. They usually attack in groups, because it is only chance them to be dangerous. As in real life.
The second group is HumAnimals. These bipedal creatures armed with weapons and have basic
tacktics skills. They are able to use covers and determine the proper distance for more effective use of their weapons.
OverBrutes are the most dangerous enemies. Being heavily armed and trained they are able to use their skills against their enemies.
As I've already said, you will be able to watch the battles between beasts and human guards.

Q: While talking about the enemies let`s look at the physic-engine. It`s said that you can dismember your enemys till the bones. Do you see a risk that the game will have to be censored here in Germany?
A: We've developed our own damage system that allows the player to see the exact spot of his shot and adjust the fire. It is really possible to dismember enemies till the bones and even shoot off some of them. If to say about Germany, we'll probably have special version of the game for this country.

Q: What else but dismembering enemies will be possible with the physic-engine? How will the player be able to use it for his own advantage?
A: It is also possible to destroy boxes. Its the only way to get their content. So you can shoot in them and through the holes you'll see what is inside. The player will also be able to take and throw boxes and barrels, causing some damage to the enemies. You can use boxes and barrels as a shiels holding them in front of you.

Q:Too bad but true, Vivisector will have no Multiplayerpart. Why did the team made this decision?
A: Our game is story driven and it is impossible to implement the story into the multiplayer. That was the main reason. It takes a lot of time and work to create interesting and well balanced multiplayer (level designing, testing, balancing, etc.) so we decided to make every effort to create complete and qualitative single player mode.

Q: Have you thought about bringing out the Multiplayer with a patch or an AddOn?
A:Everything depends on players' reaction on our game. If they like the game we'll probably make some AddOns.

Q: So, how long do we have to wait? When will the game be released?
A: The game is already completed. Tested and debugged. Everything depends on our publisher.

Q:Do the developers have pets and treat them like the animals in Vivisector?
A: Many of us have pets and treat them like pets. We really love animals.
Our ingame creatures are monsters, not animals any more. Its different. We've tried to show human relationships under the veil of animals. We've implemented our message in the game and we want to make people think. It is frightening when animals' doing is more humanlike then peoples' ones. We will be happy if our massage will be accepted by the players.

Q: Is there anything else you´d like the people to know?
A:We don't like to extol our games. We are just creating them with feeling. We are players like you are and we are making the games according to our standarts as being players. We willbe happy if out tastes will coincide. Thanks for your time and being interested in out game!

Thanks for the Interview and happy birthday to Action Froms (they just got 10. years old)!
